Andrew May
Andrew joined Cartwright Pickard Architects in November 2007 and brings to the practice 20 years experience of design and delivery of a wide range of architectural and masterplanning projects. Throughout his career, Andrew has been closely involved in working with clients to articulate and visualise their requirements for new and improved buildings. After working for six years in London, primarily designing and managing social housing projects, Andrew relocated to Leeds in 1996 and worked on a wide range of public and private sector Workspace, Residential, Health, Education and Masterplanning projects. Since joining Cartwright Pickard Architects, Andrew has been involved in designs for a new mixed use masterplan in Sheffield, sustainable housing and workspace at Allerton Bywater and has recently completed a successful masterplan for Barnsley Courthouse Campus, providing a framework for long-term development of a key town centre site that builds upon the sites natural assets to create a town quarter with a distinct identity. Andrew is currently Project Director for a new Civic Office for Wakefield MDC which forms a key part of the city’s new Westgate masterplan. This project involves close liaison with the Council to develop and communicate the emerging operation of the organisation and to ensure the new building provides them with exemplary flexible, low energy workspace. Andrew was Project Architect for the Department of Architecture and School of Engineering for University of Huddersfield and for the new A-level Centre at Park Lane College in Leeds. This building was designed as a low energy building, with a simple, flexible layout and a distinctive appearance. The building received a series of design and innovation awards and has played an important part in the College’s changing image and marketing. Andrew has also been involved in mixed use masterplanning and regeneration projects ranging from approx. £5-50million for Local Authorities, Regional Development Agencies and private developers, including housing masterplans in Leeds, Doncaster, East Lancashire and North Lincolnshire.
