James Pickard is the joint founder of Cartwright Pickard Architects and is director in charge of the London office. He has helped the practice to develop an international reputation for innovation and the practical use of Modern Methods of Construction.

James has been an assessor for several different industry award schemes including the Civic Trust Awards. He has carried out Government Funded Research work into the design of Low Energy Buildings and Office Occupier Productivity. He has also been a contributor to editions of the British Council for Offices Best Practice Specification and was a member of the Main Board of “Constructing Excellence”

Prior to forming the practice in 1996 James worked with Peter Foggo Associates and was the architect in charge of several major projects and had a key role in the competition winning proposals for the Leeds City office Park and the Czech Technology Park in Brno.

With Cartwright Pickard Architects, he has completed several award winning residential projects including an innovative Housing Scheme at Murray Grove in London for the Peabody Trust. James also helped the practice win an international competition for the Bourbon Lane housing project in London. He also won the commission to design the new Health and Safety Executive HQ in Merseyside.
