Before joining Cartwright Pickard Architects in 2001, Stephen worked at Studio BAAD Architects in Hebden Bridge and at Carey Jones Architects in Leeds, working on a range of healthcare and education projects including the new £22 million Nuffield Hospital in Leeds and on major mixed-use developments including the £120 million Clarence Dock mixed use development at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.

Since joining Cartwright Pickard Architects, Stephen has project managed the £2 million new build project of student accommodation at the University of Nottingham using off-site prefabrication methods completed in 2002. He has also completed the £6 million Iceworks mixed use development in the Exchange Quarter of Leeds in 2007.

Stephen formed part of the teams responsible for PFI bids for a £35 million campus facility at the University of Durham and for the Stourton Supertram Terminus and Business Park in Leeds. He has also carried out several feasibility studies for new office developments, including one for a Leeds law firm and one in the Hungate area of York.

Currently, Stephen is overseeing the new Civic & Cultural Quarter development for Doncaster Council, the first phase of which includes a £27 million energy efficient office headquarters.
