Gatecrasher Apartments is Cartwright Pickard’s latest student residential scheme in Sheffield for Devonshire Green.
This purpose built student accommodation development is located on the site of the former Gatecrasher nightclub, located within the Creative Industries Quarter of Sheffield, an increasingly vibrant area of the city popular with students and close to Cartwright Pickard’s award-winning Sellers Wheel complex.
At 5-8 storeys and 9,810m2, this student residential-led mixed use development comprises 243no bed spaces made up of 153 study bedrooms and 90 studios with associated kitchen facilities, a common room with roof terrace and landscaped courtyard, as well as retail and commercial units at ground floor. A mix of unit types has provided the client, who has remained the operator, with a variety of tenure options for the wider student market.
Ground floor amenity accommodation is in the form of a double height joint common room, screening room, study areas and gym.
Due to fire damage of the original site, it was not possible to retain any of the original warehouse building structures, but the ‘turntable’ landscaping to the courtyard gives a nod to the site’s past, providing social and historical interest. Commercial and retail units animate the street frontages along Eyre Lane, Matilda Street and Arundel while views through to a secure courtyard via the double height entrances and joint common room provide a public glimpse into the depth and animation of the scheme.
