Construction work starts on new landmark office development in Doncaster

Construction work has started on a new landmark office development in the centre of Doncaster.

Designed by Cartwright Pickard Architects, the £2.5m scheme is being developed by Doncaster-based Lazarus Properties in response to the shortfall in high quality office space in the town and the essential need to attract more businesses and investment to the area.

Located on a prominent brownfield site on the corner of East Laithe Gate and Princes Street, this ambitious five-storey 25,000 sqft development will create a modern building which combines an attractive design and a tight cost plan to keep rent levels competitive.

“Doncaster is ideally placed geographically for substantial development and investment, but if it is going to compete as an important town in the North of England, the shortfall in high quality office accommodation has to be addressed”, said Lloyd Nicholson of Lazarus Properties.

“Our aim with this development is to demonstrate a level of initiative and confidence in the town, to help strengthen its economy, expand the skilled workforce and attract both new and established businesses.”

He added, “Cartwright Pickard is a well regarded team of architects, both nationally and internationally, with a reputation for good design and high quality of execution.  We believe their scheme for this previously under-utilised site will promote the value of good design and identity, and will stimulate further development in the centre of Doncaster.”

Peter Cartwright, Project Director at Cartwright Pickard Architects, said, “Our design feaures a load-bearing brick façade, which we believe is appropriate for such a prominent site. This is an exciting office scheme on a challenging site, which we are confident will help raise the quality of architecture and the development profile of the town. The scheme adopts innovative engineering principles to create an efficient commercial development suitable for single or multi tenants.”

The design incorporates a strong, glazed vertical corner feature to reflect the spire of the Christ Church opposite, a glazed canopy to add impact to the main entrance, an attractive landscaped roof deck for the top floor offices, and panels of translucent low energy glass for the vision areas.

Cartwright Pickard is an award-winning architectural practice, which has offices in London and Leeds.  Accolades include the prestigious British Council for Offices (BCO) Corporate Workplace Award for the North of England, North Wales and Northern Ireland which Cartwright Pickard has won twice – for an office scheme in Belfast and the new headquarters for the Health and Safety Executive in Merseyside.
