New Housing Project Complete - Canklow Woods, Rotherham

The eco-friendly residential development, commissioned by The South Yorkshire Housing Association who is the lead Registered Social Landlord for the West Rotherham Area Development Framework, is now complete.

Mixed community blocks step up the hill with the low-rise elements uppermost to minimise over shadowing and to reduce the visual and physical impact of the buildings whilst looking up the slope at the largest ancient woodlands in Rotherdam. Canklow Woods is a 1.75 hectare brown-field site situated in the southern end of the Canklow estate adjacent to Canklow Woods Junior School.  The clearing of vacant housing allowed for the redevelopment for this new housing scheme and the design fully responds to the key drivers of topography, solar orientation, and the surrounding natural site. The development consists of 71 new dwellings comprising 2, 3, and 4 bedroom houses and bungalows for rent and affordable sale. Developed with the input of the Canklow Community, Rotherham MBC, Transform South Yorkshire (The local Housing Market Renewal partnership), and CABE. The project received a BRE: Eco Homes rating of ‘Very Good’.
