Modern Methods
Every aspect of our work draws on our knowledge of best practice across the construction industry. That makes us well placed to select which techniques, products and skills are best suited to meeting the goals of any given project.
Our collaborative working ethos is the key to aligning this latent potential with client goals. We are at the forefront in applying the benefits of modern methods of construction, which, we believe, are the route to delivering better buildings. Off site manufacture addresses the effect of de-skilling on site, and increases safety and reduces risk.
One of our proudest achievements in our first ten years was to design, implement and deliver a new housing system called Optima Homes that resolves all the complexities of construction in a factory, leaving only simple assembly on site. Kingspan Home Housing and IKEA were so impressed that they bought the system and are rolling it out across the UK.
We are applying the experience learnt on this project to two others. One is a pre-fabricated concrete system for education buildings, the other is the winning entry in the International Living Steel competition, for a housing system using steel construction. Both show how our breadth of knowledge across the industry can bring benefits from one sector to another.
Our position as advisors to various governments, and James Pickard’s role as the only architect board member of Constructing Excellence, is testimony to the reputation we have earned for innovation in construction.
