Sustainability
Our knowledge of the construction industry gives our approach to sustainability, and mitigating the effects of climate change, a particular edge.
Most waste occurs because of poor attention to the process of making a building, either through inefficiencies in the process itself, or because decisions taken at the design stage cause inefficiencies in operating the building. By paying particular attention to the relationship between the design and construction process, we are able to reduce waste at whichever stage it might occur.
But for us sustainability is not just reducing waste, it is also creating self-sustaining communities within and around our buildings. We design buildings and places which encourage economic and social sustainability by enhancing the patterns of uses and perceptions that make a successful and attractive locality.
In our urban regeneration schemes, in particular, this creates a virtuous circle of sustainability: new buildings stimulate an economic uplift across a whole area; their economic success means they last longer while their popularity creates density of uses, so minimising pressure on transport.
Our designs give visual expression to this ethos. Their appearance is lean and efficient, each element is used to its maximum potential.
