Making better buildings
Linking imaginative and responsive design ideas to the construction process that delivers them is the key to making better buildings. We have proven the value of this approach in the residential and commercial sector, but it canalso contribute much to the learning environment.
In particular our knowledge of the construction industry means we can ensure that tight budgets are spent on what really matters, that the immovable deadlines tha tall academic institutions have are met, and that any potential benefits in the site are maximised.
Metworks, our digital design and manufacturing centre for London Metropolitan University, uses some of the advanced manufacturing techniques it teaches and develops in its construction. The cladding is pressed and perforated panels, with laser cut patterns at the ground floor.
Winton School’s sports hall, on a tight site in Islington, depends on clever design and innovative construction methods which meet the aims of the programme. Our design delivered an attractive, airy and fully equipped facility, but also exploited off-site manufacturing techniques that meant it could be perched on the roof of an existing building, and erected over a summer holiday.
Our understanding of these variables makes us ideally suited to finding the most value in the construction process to suit the individual needs of each client.
