Cartwright Pickard Architects

Our aim is to design homes and settings for them where people enjoy living. Our skill is to make most effective use of the means at our disposal to help residents to be where they want to be, psychologically as well as physically.

We want our homes to have immediate appeal for newcomers, and then we want that appeal to evolve into lasting pleasures and opportunities as those newcomers turn into residents and they forge their lives in their new environments. We like to build in potential to adapt so residents have the option to stay if their circumstances change – and to be receptive to technological developments that may occur in the future.

We believe homes and their settings should have tangible value. They must meet the financial and social goals of their developers and their residents, so we strive to create as much high quality and usable space as we can within our budgets. But we also believe that homes and the areas around them have intangible values as well. So we imbue their internal and external spaces with human qualities which fosters a sense of wellbeing, delight and empathy that responds to the emotions we feel around and about our homes.

The real social and financial potential of housing lies in its ability to create stable communities where people want to live, because their homes offer the privacy and security of quiet enjoyment while the locality offers choice of amenity, opportunity, diversity and social contact. Whether within an existing context or defining a new one, our designs help to create these relationships and to give them an appropriate identity.
