Cheadle Royal Business Park, Manchester At the heart of Muse Development’s Cheadle Royal business park is a new lake that has been landscaped around a mature deciduous tree. A new office building is proposed in two splayed wings with a central atrium focusing on the tree. The north/south orientation of these wings helping to manage potential solar gain.

Design

Our practice directors have a pedigree in designing some of the UK's foremost office schemes. They have held longstanding senior positions with leading architects in this field.

James Pickard worked with Peter Foggo on several major projects for Stanhope and Grosvenor and was involved in drafting the British Council for Offices’ BCO Guide: Best Practice in the Specification for Offices, now in its fifth edition.

James was also involved in government-funded research with the Building Research Establishment on occupier productivity and low energy office design.

Peter Cartwright worked with Michael Hopkins and Partners on the Inland Revenue headquarters in Nottingham and on MEPC’s office scheme at Bedfont Lakes near Heathrow.

This experience has informed the office buildings designed by Cartwright Pickard Architects. We believe organisations of all sizes compete at a global level in today’s IT-driven markets and most businesses require a world-class working environment.

Many large global corporates no longer need ‘iconic’ statements, but prefer more subtle, functional facilities – which also fit the bill for small and medium enterprises. Modern business is very pragmatic, but also aspirational, on behalf of its employees, about its working environment.

The practice has a particular skill in designing low-energy ‘lean’ office buildings in locations where viability may be marginal. Our skill in understanding how to make buildings that are efficient to build, through regularly working with the best suppliers and contractors, enable us to do this.
