Getting to know your requirements

The intelligent use of flexible space is essential if a building is going to be an effective business tool and the work environment’s ability to influence productivity is to be maximised.

As space use determines the size of building required, so it is clearly vital to analyse very carefully the client’s operation and interrogate the brief for new space. We work with clients to help write their brief. The workplace should be agile and able to accommodate changing needs.

It is vital for us to understand the ‘cultural’ characteristics of an occupier, or potential occupier, as these will inform the nature of the space we design and the relationships between component functions.

This helps us to interpret the requirements of a wide range of occupiers and to be able to create the specification for a speculative building so that it matches the requirements of the market place.

Business performance, sustainability, cost and value are the key characteristics which drive our approach to design and these aspects are developed in close collaboration with the client and with the rest of the development team.
