Architectural design

The project was funded by a grant award from the DFES under their ‘Teaching Environment for the Future’ scheme. This scheme was launched to fund projects that will demonstrate how teaching environments could be in the future and so in response to the innovative brief it was decided to use offsite construction to create this prototype.

The main advantage was a reduction of time on site of approximately 50%, allowing the project to be completed during the summer holidays, minimising disruption to staff and pupils.

Another advantage of offsite construction was that the highest level of factory finish was achieved both internally and externally, in this case the modules were all pre-clad with the vertical western red cedar battens in the factory.
