We were commissioned by Education Leeds to undertake a feasibility study looking at a major extension of the school and were subsequently commissioned to design the first phase - a new teaching and science classroom block - whilst also addressing the school’s lack of disabled access.
Following extensive consultation with the school governors and teachers, we proposed a new build teaching block adjacent to the existing buildings, linked via an atrium, creating internal courtyards and social spaces between the old and new buildings.
Our scheme included a new, highly visible entrance that helped to make the school more legible and navigable to staff, pupils and parents. We added new laboratories, specialist teaching rooms and circulation spaces which greatly improved the performance and usability of the existing areas, at a far lower cost than complete rebuilding.
