Project Director Elizabeth Crawford took part in the NLA's recent Caring for 20th Century Buildings PechaKucha, presenting our award-winning refurbishment of the grade II listed Edwardian Lambeth Town Hall.

The PechaKucha showcased key schemes underway in the capital and the unique issues they presented to ensure London’s diverse 20th Century buildings are being conserved and reinvented for the modern age.

Elizabeth focused on the challenges of working with a listed public building that had been subject to multiple adaptations and extensions over the years and reinstating the integrity of the original building form whilst sensitively integrating modern services to make it a viable public building fit for the future.

The format, Pecha Kucha (ペチャクチャ), was devised in Tokyo in 2003 by the English architect Mark Dytham and has turned into a massive global celebration of design, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. The format makes presentations concise, keeps things moving at a rapid pace and holds its audience.
