Ian Walsh appointed Director, leading Cartwright Pickard’s Leeds studio with vision and expertise
Cartwright Pickard is delighted to announce the promotion of Ian Walsh to Director. Ian has been an integral member of the practice for over 15 years, leading the design and delivery of projects that exemplify Cartwright Pickard’s approach to sustainable, intelligent, and contextually responsive architecture. His promotion recognises his outstanding design leadership, collaborative ethos, and ongoing contribution to the practice’s success across housing, student living and workplace sectors.
Among Ian’s recent projects are:
Leonardo Printworks, Leeds: A transformative mixed-use student living development designed for McLaren Property that sensitively reimagines the Grade II-listed former printworks and adjoining 1980s extension. The scheme blends restoration and new build to create a vibrant, characterful place for students, while retaining the architectural integrity and historic significance of the existing structures.
Kellstone, Leeds: A next-generation workplace designed for Vastint to support wellbeing and environmental performance in a key part of the city's regeneration plans. Ian has led the project’s design development, ensuring that sustainability, flexibility and user experience are integral to every aspect of the building.
The Hive Central, Sheffield: A new co-living scheme for Grantside, designed to net zero carbon standards, providing 90 flexible homes, including studios, accessible units, centred around shared lounges, wellness spaces, and a lively central courtyard. The Hive provides a highly dynamic co-living development that is reactive to the daily demands of the people and community of Kelham Island and Neepsend.
