An annual showcase for excellence in the built environment sector across England and Wales, the awards bring together the nine regional winners in each of thirteen Constructing Excellence categories.
Driven by the Lambeth Council’s ambition to provide a modern, energy efficient workspace, increased public access and community use, the refurbishment reinvigorated the Grade II listed Edwardian landmark, bringing it back to its former glory and restoring it to the heart of the community once again.
Modern alterations that masked original character were stripped out, the atrium was reinstated making the highly contextual original building form legible again. With the addition of modern services, mechanical heating, cooling and ventilation to improve indoor air quality and acoustics, the refurbishment achieved BREEAM Excellent, making this a highly sustainable historic building for the future.
