CP are one of 130 practices backing the Architect's Action for Affordable Housing campaign.

The AJ-endorsed campaign, which demands our new Labour government 'does better' in delivering affordable housing for all, puts forth a 20-year housing plan, underpinned by 5 key principles to supercharge the rate at which 1.5m new homes are built.

The first principle outlines 4 policies which seek to:

  • Establish cross party working group to produce 20 year National Affordable Housing Plan, to increase supply.
  • Elevate the importance of Housing to a Cabinet position, avoiding revolving door of Housing Ministerial appointment.
  • Improve available resources for local authority planning departments and associated design resource, with higher planning fees, with a shared vision and mission to provide more Affordable Housing.
  • Incentivise the industry with higher grant rates for higher % of Affordable Housing in each scheme.

Since our inception, providing affordable housing has been incredibly important to us. Our first completed project, Murray Grove, delivered 30 affordable flats and earned acclaim for its pioneering use of modular construction methods.

More recent projects such as Lanark Road (left) and Shepherds Leas harness the technologies of today to achieve even greater efficiency savings and reduce rising running costs, ensuring more sustainable and affordable living options.

As a collective, we believe that, alongside Labour's plans to reform the UK's planning system, we can drive the necessary change to initiate a prosperous housebuilding future for affordable, market discount and social renters - 'saving the dream of home ownership' as Chancellor Rachel Reeves puts it.

Further principles can be found here on the AA4AH website and expanded on in this AJ article.
