Mariangela is an architect and researcher specialising in environmental sustainability and information management. She incorporates cutting-edge technology and our market leading research into projects by leading sustainable design reviews to provide input and critique from an environmental performance perspective at key design stages, advising on simulations, calculations, energy and carbon assessments. She also peer reviews work from MEP and sustainability consultants in the wider team. Net zero carbon design is a key area of her expertise.
Mariangela led our 7D BIM project that was supported by Innovate UK and eight industry partners from building insurance, construction, manufacturing, engineering, and property development. The result was a prototype software application that integrated whole life cost and carbon considerations throughout the design process. The project won Building magazine’s 2020 Digital Construction Award and received High Commendation at the 2020 AJ100 Best Use of Technology Awards.
In addition to a Diploma in Architectural Engineering and MSc Environmental Design of Buildings from the Welsh School of Architecture, Mariangela has received a doctoral scholarship from Loughborough University and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). Her PhD project explored the managerial issues of the multidisciplinary sustainable building design process. As a result, she developed a standardised approach for integrating environmental design considerations within Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflows.
