Cartwright Pickard have designed Doncaster Council’s Civic Office building with great skill, care and architectural flair. I doubt if there is any other recently completed civic building which demonstrates such best value in terms of cost and quality of design, function and operation.

Doncaster Civic Office assisted the Council in rationalising their estate, bringing all departments together under one roof in a purpose-built, lean building.
We formulated a strategy to implement the findings of the Council’s space audit, designing a new BREEAM Excellent workplace for 1,200 staff, which occupies a prominent position within the new Civic and Cultural Quarter, facing onto Sir Nigel Gresley Square.
Office floorplate depths allow a passive environmental approach to be adopted, keeping energy usage to a minimum and reducing in-use costs. The highly efficient flexible floorplates can be easily subdivided into sub-lettable offices should the need arise. Stairs and M&E plant and vertical services risers were made offsite and craned into place on site, reducing the overall cost and programme time, while upping the quality of these components.
The space planning and fit-out underpin the Council’s ambition to foster collaborative working.
