The building is now in its eleventh year of operation but is still looking really good.The best thing is that the building has a genuinely good buzz to it. I believe it is a real example of thoughtful design improving the efficiency of the workplace.

The Health and Safety Executive’s headquarters on Merseyside provides 30,000sqm of low energy and flexible workspace with a dramatic drum-shaped building housing conference and training facilities.

The curved elevation adds interest to the local street scene, while internally the spiral staircase and colourful artwork offer a stimulating environment. Office floor widths are limited to 15m to allow a combination of natural ventilation and daylighting to minimise energy consumption.

Generous internal public spaces and contemporary external space add to the feeling of a quality environment for valued staff and trainees.
